I can’t believe that kids are doing this. Really. Although I know high school students’ hormones are raging, they just don’t have the privacy to have sex all the time. I hope parents will just talk to their kids, rather than reading a book about sexual trends.

My daughter and her boyfriend decided to take a vow of abstinence till marriage. They are both 16 and pretty naïve. I supported them and was really pleased about this choice.

Then my daughter’s boyfriend told her he had had a relationship with an older girl and they had had sex. He said he would never violate his commitment to my daughter but he was going nuts and had to act.

She is understandably feeling betrayed and also says she doesn’t believe in abstinence anymore. That it just doesn’t work. This really saddens me, because I think the next time she gets involved with someone, she’s going to get sexual. What can I do to stop her?

I have heard Laura Stepp on many talk shows and think it’s great that you are giving your readers a chance to read what she has to say. It’s nice to hear the old-fashioned view… that sex is better with commitment and even better yet with marriage. I hope we can give our daughters—and sons—that message.
