Going through a bad divorce now, and this article gave me a lot to think about. It’s easy to get into your own head, not in your kids’. They need time too.

We’ve had our children see a lot more of their other family members (aunts, cousins, etc.) since we started our divorce process. I think it’s been helpful. Families have to stay together, even if the parents are coming apart. Most people walk on eggshells around teens but we’ve been very open about our situation—we will always have feelings for each other but can’t live together anymore and we will always love you guys—and I think that’s helped. The most vital thing is reassuring the kids that this was not their fault
