The Experts’ Top Suggestions on Reading

  • It’s never too late to start. Now is always a good time to pick up good reading habits.
  • Abandon preconceived notions. Let teens choose what they want to read without censorship.
  • No two readers are alike. Don’t force teens to read something that you are interested in.
  • Be a role model. If your children see that you make time for reading, chances are they will too.
  • Encourage the journey, not the destination. Finishing a book should not be the goal, enjoying the book should be.
  • Make time for reading. Carve out time for reading in the home schedule. Turn off the television and computer.

Our teachers would be thrilled if their students read a lot! Don't confiscate, negotiate! Your students should read texts for a set amount of pages daily. After that, free reading.
