Question:

When is a good age to have your teen see an ob/gyn? Mine is 12 and hasn't started her period (thank god). When should I take her in?

Great question. It used to be that teens had to see a gynecologist as soon as they turned 18 or became sexually active, whichever came first. Nowadays, The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that girls see a gynecologist in their early teens (between the ages of 13-15) as a preventative measure - and it doesn't hurt to have a baseline for comparison in the future. Girls should start being comfortable with the idea of seeing a gynecologist long before they are sexually active, simply because it is a responsibility that we have to ourselves and our future partners.
