Tweens are often caught up in the desire of the moment, but if you ask them to delay gratification and/or substitute a gift that's a little less permanent, they can probably do it. Since her birthday is coming up fast, maybe the two of you should read "You Want To Do What:???!!! " and then have a discussion about it.
