I heard about another program called Alcohol-Wise JV which is geared toward educatiing high school studdents about the dangers and effects of alcohol. It's user friendly and can be completed in the privacy of one's home. I know someone whose daughter took this same course called Alcohol-Wise at a large, well-known college campus and she said it was really beneficial...that she learned a lot. The website is www.3rdmilclassrooms.com

We drink wine and beer at home and of course I tell my daughters (17 and 19) they can’t drink but we can. I know they have friends with fake IDs and I wouldn’t be surprised if they had their own. I think one of the problems is all the celebs like Britney and Paris who get into trouble because of drinking but then go right back to living the high life after a slap on the wrist. Punishment should be a lot harder for these rich kids, which might teach all the other kids a lesson.

My daughter is a freshman in college - already this year she's heard about a number of students caught drinking and hears others talk about drinking. This is a time of such big change in a young person's life - away from home, dealing with managing their time and academic work, new friends and social situations, independence and decision-making. We reinforce our values and expectations and negative consequences of drinking - what more can we do at this time in her life?

I drank beer when I was in high school and I turned out ok but could have killed myself driving. I think more should be made about dying in a car accident when drunk than just drinking itself.

I hear all the time about parents who let their kids drink in the house and go to unchaperoned parties. So no wonder we have problems! It is NOT cool and it’s illegal to let minors even taste wine or beer. I once called the police when I found out my 15 year old son was at a party with liquor. And that didn’t happen again in our community!

Don't be fooled... If your son/daughter is always out with kids that drink - they do it too... if they didn't they would choose other types of friends... the ones that DON'T DRINK!

How about some help for kids who don't drink but are constantly surrounded by friends who do and events that allow underage drinking? They need some suggestions on how to hold their ground too.
