Our teachers would be thrilled if their students read a lot! Don't confiscate, negotiate! Your students should read texts for a set amount of pages daily. After that, free reading.

My two teens will read anything that’s not for school. They are great, voracious readers! So I am at my wits end. The teachers are agitating for me to confiscate all the other books, magazines, and online material they download. But how can I?

We read to our kids from the minute they were born and every night we still share a “reading hour” as a family. This probably sounds pretty old fashioned. But my daughter is great at doing voices for different characters and my son thinks it’s a hoot to do a running commentary on the material, as though we were a newscaster. Whatever, it works!
